About our smog center
What to expect when you visit.
From the moment you pull in to the moment your certificate is filed, here’s exactly how a smog check works at White Ln Smog Check.
Your visit, step by step
Simple, fast and transparent.
Check in
Hand us your keys and your DMV renewal notice if you have one. We confirm the vehicle and the reason for the test.
Inspection
We check the on-board diagnostics, readiness monitors and check-engine light, and run the visual and functional emissions checks.
Results & certificate
We walk you through the result. On a pass, the certificate is e-filed with the DMV right away.
Inside the inspection
What we look at.
On-board diagnostics
For most 2000-and-newer vehicles we connect to the OBD port to read readiness monitors and stored trouble codes.
Emissions equipment
We confirm required components like the catalytic converter and evaporative system are present, connected and unmodified.
Check-engine light
An illuminated check-engine light is an automatic fail, so we verify it works and isn’t on.
Visit FAQ
Before your visit.
What should I bring to my smog check?
Your vehicle, a form of payment and, if you have it, your DMV renewal notice. For a transfer or out-of-state car, bring the title or current registration.
How should I prepare my vehicle?
Drive it for about fifteen minutes beforehand so the engine is warm, and make sure the check-engine light is off.
Can I watch the test?
You’re welcome to wait on site while we test your vehicle — most tests take about fifteen minutes.
What happens after I pass?
We e-file your certificate with the DMV immediately, so you can complete your registration.
What happens if my car fails?
We explain the result in plain language and tell you what needs attention, so any repair shop can address it. Then bring it back for a retest.
What payment do you accept?
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and debit.
Do I need an appointment?
No — just walk in Monday through Saturday during business hours.
