Smog check · Bakersfield

Smog check in Bakersfield, done right.

White Ln Smog Check is a STAR-certified, test-only station on White Lane. We inspect every vehicle — gas, diesel and hybrid — for every DMV reason, at $41.75 for most vehicles.

What a smog check is

California’s emissions test, explained.

A Smog Check confirms your vehicle’s emissions controls are working and that it meets California’s standards. The DMV requires one before it will renew most registrations, transfer a title, or register a car from out of state.

The OBD inspection

For most 2000-and-newer vehicles, we plug into the on-board diagnostic port and read the readiness monitors and any stored trouble codes.

Visual & functional checks

We confirm the required emissions equipment is present and connected, check the check-engine light, and test the gas cap and other components.

Certificate e-filed

When your vehicle passes, the certificate goes to the DMV electronically — there’s nothing to mail and no paperwork to carry.

How a visit goes

In and out in about fifteen minutes.

1

Pull in on White Ln

Walk in Monday through Saturday — no appointment needed. Bring your DMV renewal notice if you have one.

2

We run the test

A licensed inspector tests your vehicle to STAR standards while you wait, usually in about fifteen minutes.

3

Pass and go

The certificate is e-filed with the DMV on the spot, so your registration can go right through.

Why test-only matters

An honest result, every time.

Because White Ln Smog Check is a test-only station, we inspect and certify but never perform repairs. There is no repair work to sell you, which means no reason to fail a vehicle unfairly and no surprise add-ons — just a fair test at a flat price.

It also means we can certify vehicles a regular shop cannot: cars the DMV has directed to a STAR station and vehicles flagged as gross polluters. See everything we test on our smog services page, or grab the $41.75 coupon before you come in.

What should I bring?

Your vehicle and, if you have it, your DMV renewal notice. For a title transfer or an out-of-state car, bring the title or current registration.

No. We’re a test-only station, so we never do repairs. If your vehicle fails, we explain exactly why so any repair shop can fix it, and you may qualify for repair help through the state’s Consumer Assistance Program.
